Consent first is not politeness. It is the defense the other tools do not have.

In 2025, hundreds of wiretap claims were filed against websites that identified visitors before asking, under state wiretap laws. Statutory damages run to five thousand dollars per violation, and political sites are not exempt from the ones that bite.

Every one of those claims turns on a single fact: was the visitor identified without consent. ReachTheVote.com asks first, records the answer, and only then runs the lookup for that visitor. A yes on record answers the complaint, and a no means there was never anything to complain about.
